Things That Made Me Smile Recently

It is an ordinary mundane day and you’re going about life doing the tasks you have. But you randomly stumble across something that breaks your face into a big smile. *sigh* I love such small moments. I have been struggling in life to find happiness and peace these past few months and so these little moments of surprise joy brightened my days even more. Here are some –

  • I was going through my bank account statement today for some work and I came across some transactions that I had made to a man I had gone on a few dates with last year (just to clarify – he had paid for the dates and I had transferred my half to him). He was really nice and all our dates were really fun but we were just not compatible. I did feel sad when we couldn’t make it work but seeing those transactions today brought back happy memories of our fun dates (including a picnic date that he agreed to even though it was 35 deg and burning hot).

  • If you have been a long-time reader you might remember this post of mine from a few years back where I talked about my best dates. I had mentioned meeting someone for a single date and not being able to date them due to the pandemic and moving cities. He was in my city a few weeks back and we met. It was such a happy meeting, we went around Delhi trying out popular street foods and catching up on what had transpired in our lives in the past few years. He is still extremely cute (not just in looks but his demeanor too). I have put on a lot of weight since I last met him in 2020 and was super conscious about how I looked but he was just so sweet and flirty that it made me forget all my apprehensions. It was a real feel-good hangout.
  • One of my closest friends had a baby a few months back (you can read about her experience here) and I absolutely love spending time with her and her baby. There is something so cute and endearing about seeing her jump into this new role. Plus her baby has my WHOLE heart. Despite feeling mentally bogged down on most days, spending time with them is like getting sunshine during a thunderstorm.

  • Another close friend of mine sat up almost all night with me talking about my mental health issues and trying to help me work through it. Most times I decline to talk about my mental health struggles with my friends because I feel like I might be emotionally dumping on them but this friend made me feel so heard and seen. Just talking to her gave me hope.
  • Watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone again after years.
  • Rewatching Derry Girls. (If you have seen it, drop a comment! I know of such few people who have seen the show.)
  • Booking an impromptu vacation with my ex-flatmate. (will write in more detail about it soon)
  • Seeing my sister’s doggo on video calls. He doesn’t understand who is calling out to him so he makes the cutest faces.
  • Making really good and healthy homemade ice cream.
  • Reading 4 books in a month after going through a reading rut.

Hope this post brings a smile to your face. What are some things that made you smile recently? 🙂

Most of the people I loved reading do not write anymore, so this post brought me that smile 🙂 I also hope we sift through turbulent times together and you soon get a lot of happy times with less mental struggles

Nice to see you blogging again. I’m sorry about your mental health issues. That affects everything else in our lives.

What made me smile recently? My wife and I just became first-time grandparents. Of course, I wanted to share our happy news. https://petespringerauthor.wordpress.com/2024/06/09/a-new-first/
